Introduction

The Amex Blue Business Cash Card is an excellent choice for small business owners looking for straightforward rewards on everyday spending. You receive 2% cash back on the first $50,000 you spend each year and an unlimited 1% after that.

Cash back is automatically applied as a statement credit and cannot be used to redeem for other rewards such as gift cards or merchandise. Though redemptions with this card offer less flexibility than some of the other options on the market, business owners may appreciate the simplicity and convenience of automatic cash back.

For the welcome offer, you can earn $250 after spending $3,000 within 3 months of account opening. You also receive 0% APR on purchases for the first 12 months, which can help you spread out the costs of large business expenses. Any remaining balance on the card after the introductory period is subject to a variable interest rate between 16.99% and 24.99%.

American Express Blue Business Cash Card rewards

The Amex Blue Business Cash Card offers 2% back on your first $50,000 spent each year and 1% cash back after that. There are no rotating categories— you automatically earn cash back on all eligible purchases.

The Amex Blue Business Cash Card has limited options for reward redemption. For example, you can only redeem cash back as a statement credit versus for travel rewards, merchandise or gift cards. Amex will automatically apply your cash back as a statement credit within two billing cycles after the eligible purchases are made.

You can maximize your rewards by using a different business rewards card once you reach the $50,000 spending cap. Ultimately, it comes down to your business needs—if you do a lot of traveling, you might be better off with a credit card that offers travel points instead of cash back.

American Express Blue Business Cash Card drawbacks

Amex Blue Business Cash Card drawbacks:

  • Limited rewards redemption options: Cash back is the only reward available and is automatically applied to your account as a statement credit. Paying for travel, gift cards, or merchandise with your cash back is not possible.

  • Spending cap: There is a $50,000 annual spending limit for the 2% cash-back rate. Once you reach $50,000, the earning rate drops to 1%. Businesses with higher expenses may want a rewards card with a higher spending cap.

  • No travel perks: The Amex Blue Business Cash Card does not offer travel points or hotel and airline benefits. Frequent business travelers may find more value in a travel business card that does provide such perks.

The card offers various options for rewards, allowing you to redeem points for cash, gift cards or travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards®. The no-annual-fee card also has a tempting welcome offer: Earn up to $900 cash back when you spend $6,000 within the first 3 months of opening the account. This differs from the Amex Blue Business Cash Card, which has a $250 welcome bonus when you spend $3,000 in the first 3 months.

There is a $125 annual fee, but it's waived for the first year.

Should you get the American Express Blue Business Cash Card?

The Amex Blue Business Cash Card is a solid everyday rewards card for small businesses and startups. Businesses spending less than $50,000 a year will enjoy the hassle-free 2% cash back, while larger companies may want to consider a rewards card with a higher spending cap. Though the rewards aren't as robust as some of the other cards on the market, sometimes simple really is better.
